Discover Brazil's Wild Wonderland

This video shows the annual Cavalhada de Poconé. It takes place each June in Poconé, Mato Grosso. It's a tradition remembering the battles between the Christians and the Moors in the Iberian peninsula (Spain and Portugal) over 500 years ago. Each year, the town splits into two sides: Christians and Moors. The two teams then enter the field on horseback - fighting each other with lances and swords. This takes place in front of a mock castle. Besides honour and prestige, the winning team gains the thanks of the Moorish Queen.
