Discover Brazil's Wild Wonderland
This National Geographic video, filmed in the llanos of Venezuela (an environment similar to the Pantanal) shows the hunting methods of anacondas stalking and striking at their prey. Capybara are probably the most numerous prey for anacondas, but anaconda will also prey on birds (notably herons and other water fowl), and caiman. Larger anaconda has been seen to prey on deer and calves. Attacks on humans are extremely rare - but a few have been recorded. In the Pantanal and the Amazon there are often-told stories of lone fishermen who've gone out and never returned - with a hungry anaconda being suggested as the culprit.
