Discover Brazil's Wild Wonderland

This is a YouTube video by British TV presenter Nigel Marven shows how NOT to grab a False Water Cobra in the field. The snakes are mildly venomous so, although it wouldn't have seriously affected him with its bite, it would have been very painful and we suspect he would have had an uncomfortable time afterwards. This is a good lesson - if you see a snake then its best to leave it alone! If you insist on picking one up then use a snake catcher stick to reduce the trauma for everyone involved. Watching this video we mostly feel sorry for the snake. All credit due - at least the presenter remained calm and thought to minimise any negative impact to the snake after it had latched onto him.

The False Water Cobra gets its name because, when threatened, it flattens the ribs in its neck to form a "hood" shape in the same way as a true cobra. It's coloration closely resembles that of water cobras from the various Boulengerina species found in south and central Africa. The False Water Cobra is a popular pet for snake enthusiasts in North America and Europe.
